Heat Treating Maintenance Journeyman Electrician

Stack Metallurgical (www.StackMet.com), a heat treating facility located within the Swan Island Industrial Park in Portland, Oregon is seeking a Journeyman Electrician to join our equipment and facility maintenance team.
 

General Summary:
This individual will be responsible for all facets of maintaining, installing, and also upgrading equipment and building facilities and acting as the senior electrician on site. This is a “hands on” hourly position that may be called upon to act as a repair team leader. The individual must consistently demonstrate the ability to repair, as well as organize and coordinate the work of others in the performance of routine maintenance and repair, preventative maintenance, and inspection of equipment and systems. A desire to assist with equipment and process instrumentation is also required. Additional responsibilities consist of contacting vendors and contractors for advice and reference materials, parts, tools and electrical inspection devices for equipment and facilities. PLC knowledge (troubleshooting, as well as new programming) is desired but not required. Experience with various discrete controllers is required. To be successful within this position, the individual must have the ability to understand interactions between equipment instrumentation and operation. Previous experience with electrically heated types of heat treating furnaces including vacuum, atmospheric (endothermic), induction, and basic draw is highly desired. Experience with boilers is also welcomed in lieu of heat treat furnaces.


Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and repair a full range of electrical equipment and systems throughout heat treating facility, including but not limited to the following: Wiring and circuitry, motors (fans, pumps, drives), solenoid valves and actuators, pressure/temperature switches and sensors, transformers (basic to VRT), SCRs, relays, power switches, disconnects, and various types of heating elements (wire, tube, graphite/vacuum among others).
     
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
     
  • Estimate, take inventory, and order materials and measurement tools needed for projects and assigned tasks.
     
  • Interpret oral and written instructions, specifications, codes, and writing diagram (schematics/ blueprints/drawings/charts)
  • Conduct safety practices and procedures related to the electrical tasks and usage of equipment.
     
  • Create and maintain documentation. Create and submit procedures.
     
  • Able to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain equipment electrical systems.
     
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and other required electrical codes and policies.
     
  • Conduct installations and testing of the systems (must be in regulations of the NEC).
     
  • Highly skilled with reading electrical schematics, evaluating panel layouts, and finding root causes for problems while using methodical approaches.
     
  • Skilled in controls and controllers.
     
  • Skills in basic PLC IO to the point of module replacement are desired but not required.


Additional skills:

  • A basic understanding of heat treating is desired, but not required.
     
  • An understanding or desire to learn all instrumentation requirements for equipment and processes (the usage of thermocouples, carbon probes, vacuum gauges, and data logging and acquisition equipment).
     
  • Ability and desire to understand and be able to perform tasks related to mechanical maintenance.
     
  • Participation in project reviews, planning, scheduling, and training on machines and systems as needed.
     
  • Train current/new employees on safety, usage, and anything regarding electrical and maintenance process.
     
  • Computer literacy with Windows XP operating system, and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, & Outlook) is also desired, but not required.
     
  • Ability to work within a maintenance organization that uses a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS for PM’s, workorders, and collecting equipment repair knowledge).
     
  • Possesses a good communication skills and has good working relationship with others.

 

Education and/or Experience, and Licenses:

  • High school Diploma or greater (preferable in Electrical background).

  • Have two or more years of experience in Electrical/Maintenance background.

  • Possess a current Journeyman Electrician license for the state of Oregon.


Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry between 50-75 lbs. Ability to work on ladders and in elevated areas, bend down, and squat. Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time while performing tasks. Ability to quickly move around the facility when required.
 

Working Conditions:
Will be working outside and inside the facility. The noise level in the working areas is sometimes loud and may require hearing protection. Will be working in temperatures ranging from ambient to 200 degrees (with protective gear). Air conditions may require a dust mask or respirator to be worn at times (but not typically).
